Collapse of a rock formation in Göreme

At least three people were killed and five were injured when a rock formation collapsed at the entrance to the Göreme open-air museum in Cappadocia, in Turkey’s central Nevşehir province. An earlier death toll of two was raised to at least three. The victims were reported to include a Turkish couple and a French tourist.

Heavy rainfall was reported to have weakened the formation or caused a landslide. Rescue teams searched the rubble for further victims, and the justice minister opened an investigation.
