Rijkswaterstaat closed the Hollandsche IJsselkering near Krimpen aan den IJssel at about 9 p.m. on Sunday to protect the hinterland from high water. It was the first closure of the storm season.

The storm-surge barrier is expected to reopen at about 10 a.m. on Monday.
