Children’s farm De Rekerhout in Alkmaar needs about €300,000 for a major renovation, according to its board. The roof needs replacing and several other buildings require refurbishment. The board also wants to improve accessibility for people with disabilities, expand the tea house terrace and offer educational activities for school classes about animals and nature.

Support has been promised by Rabobank, and the foundation is seeking contributions from local businesses. It hopes the municipality of Alkmaar will also provide substantial funding, although it is uncertain whether the city council will make money available. The foundation is meanwhile carrying out smaller improvements and is seeking additional volunteers.
