The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) ruled that Moldovan club FC Zimbru Chișinău must pay former Dutch footballer Donny van Iperen more than €1 million in compensation. The award covers lost income and earning capacity, medical costs and non-material damages after Van Iperen suffered severe brain injuries in a collision during a match in Moldova in 2022.
Van Iperen had initially received €28,000 after taking his case to FIFA's dispute resolution chamber, having claimed €2 million. The CAS ruling is binding and ends the legal dispute between him and the club. FC Zimbru said the financial consequences pose a serious threat to its survival.
