A car drove into a group of people in Neustadt am Rübenberge, near Hanover, shortly before midnight, injuring several people. At least four people were reported injured; four or five were taken to hospital, with some seriously hurt but none in life-threatening condition.

Police said they suspected the collision was deliberate and fired at the fleeing BMW. The vehicle was later found nearby, but the driver had not been arrested despite a search involving dogs and a helicopter. Police were continuing their investigation.
