A Canta crashed into a parked Suzuki on the bicycle path between Zaandam station and the Korte Hogendijk at about 6:55 a.m. The vehicle overturned and had to be lifted by the fire department. Its two occupants were injured and taken to hospital; their condition was not known.

A photographer said the Canta may have been slowed by a fire department water well, after which the driver lost control, drove onto the pavement and hit a pole before striking the car. Police are investigating that scenario.
