Cabinet proposes more time for working status holders to integrate

The cabinet wants to give certain status holders more time to complete their integration, Minister Aartsen of Work and Participation wrote to the House of Representatives. The measure applies to status holders who work or have worked at least 28 hours a week and have been employed for at least three months. Depending on their situation, they may have up to three years for integration, under rules that are due to take effect next year. Status holders caring for young children may receive up to one additional year if no childcare is available.

The cabinet wants work to become the norm during integration and expects the changes to help 75,000 status holders be working more than they are now within four years. The rules are to be reviewed in the second half of 2027. The broader plan also includes measures to address the shortage of teachers who teach Dutch.
