Bus and truck collide in southern Kenya

A bus carrying churchgoers collided head-on with a truck on the highway between Mombasa and Nairobi near Mtito Andei in southern Kenya, killing at least 24 people. The bus was returning to Mombasa after a preacher’s funeral and reportedly had 45 people on board. The driver was attempting to overtake several vehicles when the collision occurred. Twenty-four people were injured, most of whom were taken to a hospital in Mtito Andei.

President William Ruto said all vehicles in Kenya should undergo road-safety checks and called for a national day of mourning for road-accident victims.
