Breda freezes event permit fees

◆2 sources

Breda’s coalition parties D66, Pro Breda and VVD decided that a planned 112% increase in fees for event permits will not go ahead for now. They want to freeze the tariffs in 2027 until it is clear how the permit costs are calculated. The decision followed objections from 18 event organisers, including Stichting Kielegat, Breda Jazz, Breda Barst and Breda Live, which warned that the proposed increase could put events at risk.

Breda event organisers challenge permit fee increase

3 sources

Eighteen event organisations in Breda, including organisers of carnival activities, Breda Jazz and Breda Live, jointly sent a letter to the municipal authorities over planned increases in event-permit fees. They requested full transparency about the proposed 112% increase and asked that it not be introduced for the time being. The organisations said the municipality should first explain how it will use the additional revenue before discussing a fee system they consider healthy, explainable and sustainable. From 2027, permit fees are due to rise; one report said the fee for major events, such as the main carnival parade, would increase from €17,000 to nearly €37,000.
