Bravis Hospital opens outpatient clinic for women with misunderstood heart complaints

◆1 source

Bravis Hospital has opened a special outpatient clinic for women with heart complaints that have not been adequately explained. The clinic is intended to provide patients with more time, attention and guidance, as cardiovascular disease can manifest differently in women than in men. Bravis cardiologist Carla Somers said that knowledge from earlier research into cardiovascular disease in men had often been applied to women. She said some women continued to have symptoms even when examinations showed no narrowing of the coronary arteries, and that some could suffer a heart attack while the large blood vessels appeared normal. These complaints should be taken seriously, she said.
