Bintangs played their final concert in Alkmaar

The Bintangs gave their final concert at the Victory in Alkmaar, ending a career that began in 1961 in Beverwijk. More than 900 fans attended the farewell performance, during which bassist and singer Frank Kraaijeveld, 81, was made a Knight in the Order of Orange-Nassau. A deputy mayor of the municipality of Bergen presented the royal honour shortly before the concert began.

Kraaijeveld, a co-founder and the band’s long-standing frontman, said he was ready to stop after a series of farewell concerts, although he did not attribute the decision to his age. The Bintangs’ music was described as rough rock, later associated with the term “Hoogovenrock”. Fans joined in the songs and some embraced Kraaijeveld on stage during the final number.
