Bengal cat taken into Beekse Bergen safari park

A Belgian family took their Bengal cat Loki into the Beekse Bergen safari park in Hilvarenbeek, despite pets not being allowed there. Videos showed the leashed cat near the meerkat enclosure and the panther house; one video was viewed about four million times. The park said pets were prohibited for the safety and welfare of its animals, with recognized assistance dogs as the exception, and asked for the videos to be removed.

Loki’s owner, Steven Claesen, said he had not known that pets were forbidden and that the family had no bad intentions. He said the cat entered in an open backpack that staff checked at the entrance without addressing them. After the park’s request and online criticism, Claesen first added a warning that the videos were not intended to encourage visitors to bring pets, and later removed the videos completely.
