Fires linked to batteries were reported in homes in Helmond, Oudenbosch and Esch over several days. In Helmond, an electric bicycle battery reportedly exploded while charging in a house on the Griftstraat. In Oudenbosch, a fatbike battery caught fire after a short circuit in a house on the Bansingel. In Esch, a battery charging in an outbuilding caused a fire at a house on the Leunisdijk. The residents and their dogs had left the Esch house before firefighters and police arrived; one resident was checked by paramedics for breathing difficulties caused by smoke. Firefighters controlled the fire and ventilated the house.
Saijah van Gurp of the Central and West Brabant Security Region advised charging batteries in a stable, clear and non-combustible place, preferably at room temperature and while someone is at home. The advice also included using the supplied charger, keeping batteries away from extreme cold, direct sunlight and moisture, and having e-bike and e-scooter batteries serviced annually.
