Attack on Israeli embassy guard in Belgrade

A minor was shot dead in Belgrade after attacking an officer from a special police unit who was guarding the Israeli embassy with two knives. Interior Minister Ivica Dacic described the incident as a terrorist attack. The officer shot the attacker in self-defence, according to the minister, and was slightly injured in the face and taken to hospital.

The terrorist threat level in Serbia was raised to its highest level and security was increased at important locations. Dacic said the attacker was from Sabac, had been known to national security services and supported Islamic State. He said the attacker had shouted “Allahu Akbar” and that his Instagram account contained images with IS symbols.
