Atalanta supporter arrested over ACAB shirt in Amsterdam

An Atalanta supporter was arrested in Amsterdam, probably on Dam Square, after wearing a shirt bearing the acronym ACAB. Police said they do not accept the expression on clothing, in speech or as a tattoo. The supporter was held for several hours while awaiting questioning and may have missed the 9 p.m. match.

About 2,200 Atalanta supporters later walked from Dam Square to Central Station under police supervision; the march passed without major incident, apart from a few flares. Earlier, police surrounded and searched about 40 other Atalanta supporters on Oudezijds Achterburgwal after indications they might seek a confrontation with Ajax supporters. No prohibited items were found and nobody in that group was arrested. The area around the Johan Cruijff Arena also remained calm, and no other arrests were reported in connection with the match.
