A Syrian Christian resident of the asylum seekers' centre in Vlissingen was injured in a serious incident on Friday after being beaten with a bottle. The alleged attacker was described as a fellow resident and, in one report, as Muslim.

The Central Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers said it saw no indication that Christians at the centre are at risk or that the incident reflected a pattern of religious tensions. A COA representative said the alleged attacker had conflicts with other residents as well.
