A woman was found injured about five months earlier in woods between Leersum and Veenendaal. The Public Prosecution Service alleges that 27-year-old Rotterdam suspect B.K. severely assaulted her, left her unconscious and poured petrol over her. A passer-by found the woman, who was suffering from hypothermia, according to one report.

The suspect is also alleged to have set fire that day to an apartment in Veenendaal where the woman had been staying.
