Arson case against Lucas den D. in Heesch

Prosecutors sought a four-year prison sentence for Lucas den D., 34, of Oss, over a series of fires in Heesch on 3 April. Six cars, a trailer and a mailbox were set alight after he crashed his car near the Geffense Barrière while under the influence of alcohol and sleeping medication, then left on foot wearing underwear and a bathrobe. He was stopped near the final fires, and a lighter carrying his DNA was found.

Den D. said he could not remember the events but did not deny owning the lighter or setting the fires. The prosecution alleged that the fires created a danger to life, while his lawyer disputed that assessment and argued that not all the fires could be proven. The defence requested a sentence of no more than seven months in custody and community service, with treatment for addiction problems. The court is due to rule on 29 October.
