A 20-year-old U.S. Marine stationed at Futenma Air Base was arrested in Japan on suspicion of murdering 39-year-old Anna Yagi and stealing her wallet and backpack at a hotel in Naha, the capital of Okinawa. Japanese media reported that Devin Jacob Ballard denied involvement. Security footage showed a man entering the hotel with Yagi and later leaving alone; her body was subsequently found in the room. The arrest followed a surveillance officer's sighting of a man in Okinawa City whose shaved head and arm tattoos reportedly matched those seen in the footage. Protests against the U.S. military presence were being held in Okinawa.
