Sohib Hussain, a 38-year-old D66 municipal councillor in Boxtel and employee of the Public Prosecution Service’s traffic-offences unit, was arrested on suspicion of election fraud, official corruption, forgery, computer intrusion and breaching official secrecy. A 34-year-old man was also arrested. The prosecution service has not provided further details because of the investigation.
Earlier this year, Hussain was investigated on suspicion of money laundering and was suspended by the prosecution service. D66 said it was shocked and would not comment further while the investigation continues. One report said Hussain is being held under full restrictions and may contact only his lawyer. It remains unclear whether the suspected election fraud is connected to his previous preferential-vote totals in Boxtel elections.
