Arrest of Ahmed Haroun in Sudan

The Sudanese army arrested Ahmed Haroun, a senior former Islamist official and former chairman of the National Congress Party, which was led by deposed dictator Omar al-Bashir. Haroun had spent years in hiding.

Haroun is wanted by the International Criminal Court and is suspected of crimes against humanity and war crimes. One report described him as a state secretary at the time of the genocide in Darfur and said he had been arrested previously.
