A 27-year-old Romanian man suspected of stealing a gold necklace from Mieke, an elderly woman from Overveen known as Grandma Mieke, was arrested in Germany. The robbery took place in early July in the village centre, when she was walking home from the shops with her walker. Reports differ on whether she was 96 or 97 years old. Three men had followed her, and one allegedly pretended to help before taking the necklace from her neck. Her grandson Bing and his friends had begun their own search for the suspect after the robbery. The public prosecutor’s office is to provide further information.
