Army tests an electric Fennek reconnaissance vehicle

The Army converted a Fennek reconnaissance vehicle from diesel power to an electric motor as an experiment. The vehicle is intended to show whether electric propulsion could offer battlefield advantages, including quieter operation and less dependence on fossil fuels.

For now, diesel still provides greater range, and the Army says there are too many issues to resolve before the conversion could be applied more widely. The experiment therefore remains limited to a single vehicle.
