Helmond’s Elfth of the Elfth carnival event is due to take place on November 11 at Havenplein, after the municipality rejected the organizers’ subsidy application. The decision had put the organization under pressure, while CDA and 50Plus criticized the rejection; CDA council member Lars Sijbers called it a form of barrier policy and said the event could not compete with celebrations in Den Bosch or Venlo without support. The event has since been saved, according to organizer Leo Defendgen, who called the development good news. The municipality’s decision not to provide a subsidy remains part of the dispute, but the carnival celebration is now set to go ahead.
