Appeal over fatal climbing-wall fall delayed by owner's death

The appeal involving the two owners of Klimmuur Centraal in Amsterdam was delayed after one owner, Peter Kok, died suddenly on 2 October. A scheduled procedural hearing was postponed, and Kok's lawyer said the prosecution would be declared inadmissible in his case. It remains unclear when proceedings against the other owner will continue.

The owners had appealed convictions over the death of an 11-year-old boy who fell 14 metres during a children's party in early 2023 after, according to the report, an instructor's safety check was missed and he climbed while improperly secured. In June 2025, both owners were sentenced to 120 hours of community service, while the climbing hall was fined €60,000; they were also ordered to pay about €167,000 in compensation to the boy's relatives.
