Appeal hearing in the Weiteveen double murder case

The appeal hearing against Richard K., 53, in the 2024 killings of Ineke, 44, and Sam, 38, in Weiteveen resumed in the Leeuwarden court after a month-long adjournment prompted by a newly emerged witness. The court considered the witness’s account separate from the murder case. K.’s lawyers nevertheless argued that the earlier life sentence was incomprehensible and sought a conviction for manslaughter rather than murder, saying he had acted impulsively rather than with premeditation and had been severely mentally impaired. They asked the court not to impose life imprisonment.
