Andy Puharich from Eindhoven is building a space in the basement of his home that he calls the Emergency Exit, or his loft. He says it is designed as a peaceful place with music and images of happy moments, where he could eventually die if he develops Alzheimer’s disease. He says dementia runs in his family and that he does not intend to use the space soon. During the day, Puharich works as a set builder, carpenter and artist. At night, he works on the project. He is featured in the second season of “Merlin and the Night Owls,” in which programmer Merlin Passier visits people who are awake at night in the province.
