Amsterdam VVD proposes smoke- and vape-free zones around schools

The Amsterdam branch of the VVD has proposed making schools nicotine-free and creating smoke- and vape-free zones within 50 metres of primary and secondary schools. The proposal followed an open letter from the Amsterdam General Medical Alliance and Amsterdam Smoke Alert, which raised concerns about nicotine use among young people. The party said vaping had become common among primary and secondary school pupils. The VVD also wants stricter enforcement against the sale of illegal vapes. It said these products are often flavoured and may therefore be particularly addictive, and are sold through social media and on streets near schools. The proposal is currently an initiative of the Amsterdam VVD.
