Three male Amsterdam council members argued that male councillors should be entitled to parental leave after the birth of a child. They described the current system, under which they do not receive a second period of leave, as outdated and called for it to be changed.

They said that voting on decisions involving €8 billion the day after a birth would be irresponsible governance. The current arrangements remain in place.
