Amsterdam alderman Zita Pels of PRO is maintaining plans to accommodate 39 people with psychiatric and addiction problems at the Ditaar in the village of Sloten, despite strong opposition from local residents. The dispute is heading toward a legal confrontation, with residents’ only option to halt the plans being to take the matter to court.

Pels said the people who would arrive posed no danger.
