Almere woman seeks urgent liver donor

Diarra Dione, a 35-year-old woman from Almere, is urgently seeking a liver donor after being told that her severe autoimmune hepatitis had left her with an estimated life expectancy of one to two years. Her liver is severely damaged, causing extreme fatigue, concentration problems and fluid retention. She was referred to Erasmus MC to discuss a possible liver transplant and is now on the waiting list, where she said she is in 30th place among 159 people waiting for a liver.

Dione said a living donor could also be an option, as part of a donor’s liver can be transplanted and then regrow in both people. She has not found a suitable match among people close to her and is making an online appeal. She said her two children, aged three and six, give her the strength to continue and that she wants to show them she did everything possible to recover.
