Almere cricket club must leave fields as search for new location continues

The Almere Cricket Club must leave the temporary cricket fields on the J.S. Bachweg in November, as the municipality ends their use. The fields are former hockey pitches that the municipality says are outdated and have been damaged by archaeological and soil research. The club had used them for four years and says it has about 400 players. An alternative location has not yet been found.
The municipality says the decision to end the temporary use is separate from both the search for a new cricket location and the plans for an outdoor swimming pool. It says discussions about cricket will continue, but that it still lacks sufficiently concrete information about the sport’s size, organisation and facility requirements to support a permanent provision. Club president Noor Yousuf says the club already supplied the requested information and is disappointed by the municipality’s position. Both sides remain willing to discuss a longer-term solution, and the club is also open to another temporary site.
