AIPAC ends direct support for US political candidates

The pro-Israel lobby group American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) said it would stop giving direct donations and other direct support to Democratic and Republican candidates in US elections. The group said in a letter to members that it was reversing a policy adopted five years ago because it expected the challenges it faced to grow, but it did not specify what those challenges were. The change followed increasing criticism of AIPAC and of candidates it supported, amid changing public attitudes toward Israel and the US-Israel relationship.
AIPAC said it would pursue a different strategy by encouraging individual donors to give directly to candidates. It will continue supporting the affiliated super PAC United Democracy Project, which can raise unlimited funds for election advertising. AIPAC said the 2028 presidential election would require an even stronger commitment to pro-Israel policy.
