Aart van der Haven, 42, and his partner Sjors Veenendaal, 39, from Utrecht had a son and daughter through two surrogates after a long and difficult path to parenthood that included disappointments and extensive legal paperwork. Their oldest child is now eight, and they have written a book about their experiences.

They said that national legislation on surrogacy is still awaited, while describing their family as very ordinary.
