The campaign of Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva accused Meta of interfering in Brazil’s election, saying that Lula’s official profile, campaign pages and posts had become difficult or impossible to find or had been blocked on the company’s platforms. It said accounts and posts linked to Lula and other left-wing leaders were less visible than those of Lula’s rival, presidential candidate Flavio Bolsonaro, ahead of the second-round vote. Brazil’s electoral court, the TSE, gave Meta 48 hours to clarify the matter. Meta denied the allegation and attributed the problem to a technical malfunction. A single report said the company gave no further explanation for why Bolsonaro-related accounts appeared not to be affected.
