Ad van Til died in a Moroccan hospital after repatriation delays

Ad van Til, a 72-year-old man from Helmond, died in a hospital in Marrakesh after becoming seriously ill during a holiday in Morocco. His family said doctors suspected lung cancer and had cleared him to fly under medical supervision, but that his condition deteriorated before arrangements to bring him back to the Netherlands were completed. His wife and grandson were with him when he died on Thursday night.

The family said Nationale-Nederlanden referred them to SOS International, which they contacted repeatedly. According to son-in-law Björn, medical information needed for a medical flight had been placed in the wrong part of the file, delaying the process. The family ultimately had to arrange matters surrounding Van Til’s return themselves. His wife and other relatives have returned to the Netherlands, while arrangements for Van Til’s return and funeral are still being made.
