◆5 sources
One person in the Netherlands died after being infected with the West Nile virus in the first week of October, while three new patients were reported between 1 and 7 October. The total for the year stands at 59 diagnosed infections and 10 deaths among infected people. It remains unclear whether all 10 deaths were caused by the virus, as age or underlying health conditions may also have played a role. The outbreak appears to have passed its peak.
