Raphaël Glucksmann chosen as centre-left presidential candidate

5 sources

Raphaël Glucksmann won the centre-left primary to become its candidate for France’s next presidential election. The Place Publique MEP received about 66% of more than 120,000 online votes, avoiding a second round; Socialist Party leader Olivier Faure received 14.5%, while the other candidates each remained below 10%. Glucksmann faces a fragmented left, with Jean-Luc Mélenchon’s La France Insoumise not joining a common candidacy. A single report said that flour was thrown over Glucksmann after he celebrated his victory at a Paris bar. The reports give differing dates for the election: one places it on 24 April, while another gives 18 April for the first round and 2 May for the second round.
