More than 700 remains recovered from a mass grave in Ho Chi Minh City were commemorated and buried in a cemetery. The victims were presumed to have been killed during the 1968 Tet offensive. Hundreds of people lined the roads with white flowers, while ceremonies were also held elsewhere in Vietnam.
A total of 731 sets of remains were found in the city, 307 of them with personal belongings, but most have not been identified. The excavation was part of a national effort to locate and identify people who died in the Vietnam War. DNA samples were sent to the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology in Hanoi. Researchers, journalists and eyewitnesses had spent years tracing mass-grave locations using war photographs, satellite images, military maps and archives.
