The Van Gogh Museum reached an agreement with the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science on an intensive renovation planned for 2028. The museum had previously faced uncertainty over how the work would be financed. The museum said its more than 50-year-old buildings no longer meet modern requirements and are in poor condition. It said this could eventually affect safety and sustainability.
