US sanctions against the International Criminal Court

The United States announced new sanctions against the International Criminal Court in The Hague, extending measures that had previously targeted individual judges to the court itself. According to a statement, the measures are intended to prohibit transactions with the court, cut off its resources and restrict its ability to operate; the full contents of the sanctions remain unclear. The ICC called on its member states for support and urged them to help ensure that it can continue its work. One report said the measures will take effect in six months and that the Dutch government hopes to have them withdrawn or mitigated before then.
