Trade unions FNV and CNV called on Shell to quickly clarify the future of its chemical complex in Moerdijk. They said employees are facing uncertainty amid speculation about possible sale, break-up, reorganisation, scaling back or closure of the site.

The unions said an estimated 1,400 people work at the complex and cited a staff poll in which a majority wanted prompt clarity. They also called for agreements with Shell on a social plan if a major reorganisation or sale takes place.
