Safety concerns over Dutch bridges with prestressing steel

7 sources

An investigation reported that at least 16 Dutch bridges and viaducts contain a type of prestressing steel that could fail without warning, creating a risk of collapse. The sites named in the reports included the Cadettenkamp viaduct on the A27 near Breda, an A67 railway viaduct near Geldrop, the Oosterhoutsebrug, the West Viaduct on the A9 at Uitgeest and two viaducts in Amersfoort. The investigation said the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management had long known about the issue but had taken few of the recommended measures.
