Teus van Herk, 43, grew up in the Christian village of Berkenwoude and is attracted to men. He said being gay there has been remarkably unremarkable for him, as acceptance of homosexuality declines among young people. He spoke about a love letter, his sister’s tears and why he feels freer in the polder than in the city.
