Temporary shopping centre under construction in Haarlem-Oost

A temporary shopping centre is being built in Reinaldapark, a few hundred metres from Beatrixplein in Haarlem-Oost, while the roughly 60-year-old shopping centre and the homes above it are replaced. The temporary site is to include a supermarket, other shops, an access road and a car park. Several businesses have already left Beatrixplein, while other entrepreneurs are expected to move to the temporary centre.

The redevelopment plans call for two new blocks with shops, homes and a supermarket, as well as replacement buildings elsewhere in the area. A total of 570 homes are planned, including 224 social-rental homes, along with a new community centre, gym and building for the International Taalklas. The temporary centre was originally scheduled to open in June 2025 and be dismantled in 2028; it is now planned to open in November. A municipal spokesperson said the schedule is being followed, although construction is still under way.
