The 51st TCS Amsterdam Marathon is scheduled for Sunday 18 October, with a two-day program that also includes a 7.5-kilometre race on Saturday. The half marathon and full marathon on Sunday are expected to involve 60,000 participants, including 12,000 from Amsterdam. The route runs for more than 42 kilometres and largely passes through the city, particularly affecting Amsterdam-Zuid on Saturday and Sunday.
Roads along the route are due to close 45 minutes before the first participant arrives and reopen about 30 minutes after the last participant passes. The Van Baerlestraat, Gooiseweg and Wibautstraat are expected to remain open throughout the day. Nine crossing points will be available for cyclists and pedestrians; trams are expected to run as much as possible, while the metro is due to operate normally. About 1,000 signs are being installed for the car-free route, and motorists are asked to remove their cars from the route before 23:00 on Saturday or risk having them towed or moved.
