The Amsterdam AEX index closed slightly higher on Thursday after losses the previous day. Shell was among the leading gainers, supported by a sharp rise in oil prices linked to violence in the Middle East. Chip-equipment supplier Besi also recovered somewhat after steep declines earlier in the week.
