Safe Home Flevoland struggles to handle domestic violence reports

Safe Home Flevoland director Tessa Honey said the organization could barely handle the number of notifications about suspected domestic violence and child abuse. She supported Safe Home Netherlands’ assessment that rising waiting lists and staff shortages were putting aid under pressure and said additional government funding was needed.
The number of notifications has increased annually, with 3,250 recorded at Safe Home in Almere in 2025, according to Statistics Netherlands figures cited in the account. Reports are screened for acute insecurity within 24 hours, but not all reports and investigations can be handled on time. Honey said this could allow unsafe situations and recurring violence to continue. She also said pressure across youth care, women’s shelters, child protection and the police was affecting Safe Home’s ability to help families, and that extra resources were needed.
