Lieke Nooijen won the women’s 3.1-kilometre prologue in Zuiderpark in The Hague, eight seconds ahead of Charlotte Kool and Lonneke Uneken. Jakob Söderqvist won the men’s prologue, with Wessel Mouris 0.75 seconds behind and Christophe Laporte third. The women and men started in alternating groups on the same course. Sandrine Tas then won the women’s 79.5-kilometre opening road stage in Ede in a sprint ahead of Kool and took the overall lead from Nooijen. One report said Kool was severely impeded in the sprint. Talia Appleton and Faribi Hashimi had formed a breakaway of more than two minutes before being caught shortly before the finish.
