Rising diesel prices put pressure on truckers before US elections
◆1 source
Diesel prices were reported to be putting financial pressure on self-employed truckers in the United States less than a month before congressional elections. At a truck stop in Virginia, a truck driver transporting processed chicken said he had refueled in Georgia, where diesel cost about $5.59 per gallon, roughly a dollar less than in Virginia. He said a full tank now cost him about $1,200 and was consuming his profits. The increase was attributed to the war in Iran, with diesel prices reported to have risen by more than 70 percent. Republican candidates were said to fear that the higher fuel costs could hurt them in the elections.
